The historical castle of faraklos is build on top of a hill 150m high.the castle was occupied for the first time in 1306 by the knights of the batalion of St John,of jerussalem. The knights kept the most important hostages caught by them. The hostages were then released after they had paid a large amount of ransom. In 1522 Suleimann the great beseiged the castle,and after hard fights the castle surrendered on January 1523 ,Since then the castle has been deserted. In the ancient times the settlement haraki was called Alia. There was a sugar mill and the port of Loryma which was a big transportation centre in the ancient times and medeval ages.
